IMAN HEALTH CLINIC FEATURED IN REPORT ON MUSLIM LEAD HEALTH CLINICS SPONSORED BY ASSOCIATION OF MUSLIM HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (AMPH) AND INSTITUTE FOR SOCIAL POLICY RESEARCH (ISPU)
The Association of Muslim Health Professionals Foundation investigates the contribution of Muslim Community-Based Health Organizations.
The Association of Muslim Health Professionals Foundation is a non-profit charitable sister organization of the Association of Muslim Health Professionals (AMHP). As an organization, we are dedicated to empowering Muslim health professionals to improve the quality and delivery of health services and access to care for all Americans.
In 2006, the AMHP Foundation collaborated with the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU) to examine the role played by Muslim Community-Based Health Organizations in the US healthcare system and the challenges they face in providing care to the uninsured and underinsured.
This pioneering study by Dr. Lance Laird and Dr. Wendy Cadge paints a cohesive picture of the valuable contribution made by American Muslim health professionals in addressing the plight of underinsured populations. The development of these charitable institutions is both a manifestation of the compassion and commitment of the American Muslim community and a continuation of a proud American tradition first initiated by fellow members of Christian and Jewish faiths.
Community-based clinics are just one of the ways that American Muslim health professionals are making their contributions felt throughout our nation. Whether running clinics that focus on the underserved, working in nationally recognized research institutions, or serving as general practitioners and allied health professionals, many are motivated by their faith and a strong desire to give back.
This study serves to not only shine a light on the important work currently taking place in Los Angeles, Detroit, Houston, and Chicago, but also allows the organization to chart a future course to continue to address our nation's increasing health care needs. This new generation of American Muslim health providers - many of whom were born here - are eager to make contributions to the only country they have ever known. This study, and similar efforts, can help identify new needs and new solutions to the health care challenges that all Americans face.
