In the Name of God, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

Across ten years and through the incredible effort and support of thousands, IMAN has emerged as the only Muslim-led community nonprofit of its kind.  We work at the grassroots level by organizing Muslims and the larger community to work for social justice, provide community services, and cultivate arts programming in urban communities.

The women and men working with us as volunteer leaders, board members, and staff have successfully demonstrated their capacity and dedication to strengthening the communities around us.  Among many accomplishments in the last two years alone, IMAN:

  • Opened the first no-fee Muslim-led community health clinic and ex-offender transitional housing program in the Chicago area;
  • Became the only Muslim-led community organization in the country to push for, draft, and pass criminal justice reform legislation (known as the Substance Abuse Management Addressing Recidivism through Treatment, or SMART Act) in direct leadership with local churches and other grassroots organizations;
  • Gathered more than 10,000 people for our biannual Takin’ it to the Streets community festival, the nation’s largest outdoor gathering led by Muslims.

              As American Muslims, we live in a time when positive social change can be a powerful illustration of what our community can do.

  • IMAN works in economically disadvantaged communities where poverty, racism, gangs, and violence demand our compassion and investment.
  • IMAN presents a groundbreaking opportunity to contribute to the cultivation of hope, renewal, and dynamism in urban communities.
  • IMAN demonstrates what we, as American Muslims, are doing to respond proactively and serve the diverse needs of those living in the inner city.
  • IMAN is a model of what we can and will do to inspire change not only in Chicago, but also in urban communities across the nation and world.

              Marking our tenth anniversary, IMAN has begun its most important and historic campaign, one that will sustain our work today and give promise for the future.

              The Grow Your IMAN Campaign will take IMAN into its second decade by providing $1.75 million that will allow us to:

  • Purchase the newly renovated 3,000 square feet building where we house our community programs, health clinic, and administrative offices;
  • Secure two years of community-generated support for our programs and seed money to invest in an economic development project.

               By giving to The Grow Your IMAN Campaign, you can fulfill the sacred trust, amana, of serving communities and working for social justice. Your Zakat-eligible and tax-deductible gifts and pledges will signal that we, as Muslims in America, are willing to build equity – symbolically and tangibly – as a monument to our faith, our convictions, and our belief in working for the benefit of humanity.
