Rami has been serving as the Executive Director of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) since its incorporation as a nonprofit in January 1997. Rami was born in Amman Jordan and spent most of his childhood living in the Middle East and Europe before he moved to Chicago for college. As an undergraduate at DePaul University, Rami became actively engaged with African American, Latino and Muslim students organizing around racial justice issues on campus.
   
Rami’s passion for social justice issues led him off the campus and into the neighborhood where he would begin his first years of direct community work.  In his last year of college, Rami was a recipient of the United States National Security Education Program (NSEP) Grant and that enabled him with the means to travel, study and live in the West Bank for nine months. Rami graduated with honors from DePaul University in 1996 with a double major in English Literature and International Studies.  

He later went on to complete a M.A. in Social Sciences and is currently a Sociology PhD candidate at the University of Chicago. Rami has been an adjunct professor at Columbia College Chicago, Robert Morris College, Daley Community College and at St Xavier University where he has taught a range of Sociology, Anthropology and other Social Science courses. He is the author of “Ghetto Cosmopolitanism: Making theory at the Margins” in a book edited by Saskia Sassen entitled Deciphering the global: its scales, spaces, and subjects (Routledge 2007) and a forthcoming article in Souls: A Critical Journal of Black Politics, Culture and Society.

Rami has lectured across the country on a range of topics related to American Muslim identity, community activism and social justice issues and was a recent recipient of the LISC Community Hero Award and the National Housing Service Community Leaders Award.
