Youth Services

Youth development has always been an important aspect of IMAN’s work. Over the past several years, IMAN has engaged youth through several different programs including Pillars of IMAN, Bonds of Brotherhood, the Youth Leadership Council, and Hip Hop 101. These programs and others have focused on leadership training, academic excellence, spiritual development, violence prevention, life skills, youth organizing, community service, and arts and culture.

In 2007, IMAN implemented BluePrints: A Youth Needs Assessment Project. The project hired youth interns, guided by IMAN’s Youth Coordinator, to survey their peers, interview youth, and lead focus group discussions. Their findings and results were categorized into 4 major areas and the most prominent issues youth were facing were questions of identity, lack of resources, and an overwhelming exposure to teen pregnancy, gangs, drugs, and violence.

IMAN is now implementing programs that can serve as solutions to those issues. In 2008, IMAN is launching the following major youth initiatives:

Youth Leadership Council
Kids and Docs : A 6-month Film Making Workshop
Pillars of IMAN : Young Men’s Leadership Development Program
Health Clinic
Career Development Initiative
Food Pantry
