Beloved Community Ceramic Arts Studio

The end is reconciliation; the end is redemption; the end is the creation of the Beloved Community. It is this type of spirit and this type of love that can transform opponents into friends. It is this type of understanding goodwill that will transform the deep gloom of the old age into the exuberant gladness of the new age.
~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Growing out of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision for a “Beloved Community,” the Beloved Community Ceramic Arts Studio is an arts space for neighbors to create, build, and heal together. This studio is the first of its kind on Chicago’s South Side; an artisan workshop that convenes local artists and community members to craft unique ceramic works that can inspire both creativity and entrepreneurship. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Living Memorial, produced collaboratively inside the Studio, can be seen on permanent display in Chicago’s Marquette Park.

Nearly completed, the Beloved Community Ceramic Arts Studio will soon offer a combination of free and affordable classes and workshops including ceramics and art therapy. Low-cost memberships offering unlimited access to the Studio will be available to community members, art students and local creatives alike.
