Finance Director

The Finance Director provides leadership, guidance, technical expertise and team coordination to support the implementation of IMAN strategic initiatives in the areas of fiscal management, budget analysis, financial reporting, fiscal control and auditing. This position plays a key leadership role in the in the organization as a whole. The Finance Director directs the operations of the Finance Department of IMAN. S/he will ensure that the department is effective, well managed and responsive to the needs of IMAN. His/her responsibility is to ensure the continuous and sustainable financial well being of IMAN through continuous maintenance of systems of internal controls.

The Chief Financial Officer reports to the ED and works closely with the Executive Board. S/he will assist the ED in all Financial reporting to the Board of Directors

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for understanding the strategic direction of IMAN,  providing high level, proactive financial expertise and leadership to IMAN as a whole and direction for both short term and long term financial planning
  • Lead the design and implementation of the structure of financial resources and all financial operations of IMAN
  • Advise the Department Heads, ED and  Board of Directors on the financial implications, of operational spending and business/project activities
  • Participate in Leadership Team meetings and represent the finance department in those meetings. Participate in management committees in issues related to IMAN’s overall management and development
  • Primary interface on all banking, treasury and board-level presentations
  • Lead and organize the preparation of feasibility studies for new projects initiatives
  • Prepare terms of reference and follow up the consultancy in the field of the Financial Management to be engaged by IMAN
  • Responsible for the preparation and follow up of the annual external audit
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards
  • Develop strategic proposal for IMAN  regarding Asset Management
  • Ensure that existing finance guidelines and related administrative procedures are adhered to and that grant finances are kept in an exemplary state
  • Collaboratively develop operating policies and procedures, improvement programs and management systems for the attainment of objectives of specific projects and IMAN
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and final reports (in line with the  Board’s requirements
  • Prepare regular progress reports (actual vs. budget, financial statements, fundraising activities) on a monthly basis to the ED on each of the departmental activities
  • Provide internal leadership and direction to immediate reports of the Finance Department
  • Provide Financial and Economical mentoring for IMAN’s Project Managers
  • Back stepping the accounting team and the quality assurance of the accounting system
  • Conduct annual Pathways reviews for key staff in the department
  • Assist in recruiting new staff for the department and develop training models for the department’s staff
  • Apply and demonstrate adequate financial and other related management controls
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance,  MBA, or equivalent, and/or a CPA
  • Demonstrated record of effective financial management, with experience with large, complex financial accounting systems and hands-on knowledge of GAAP


  • 7 or more years of experience with senior to middle management responsibilities preferably in a substantial not-for-profit or relevant commercial field with a track record of quality achievements
