IMAN is seeking a strong candidate to serve as an Organizing Fellow. The Fellow will work closely with IMAN’s Youth & Organizing Director and will support the operations of the Organizing Department while gaining valuable hands-on and administrative experience in campaign development, relationship building, turnout, and event planning. The Organizing Fellowship is a highly competitive full-time professional development opportunity that offers a monthly stipend to the successful candidate.
IMAN’s Organizing Fellowship Program offers
Visibility & Networking: The Fellow will be exposed to a rich network of colleagues, leaders, mentors, and other experienced professionals. In addition, the fellowship will provide multiple opportunities for increased visibility in Chicago’s nonprofit community.
Skills Development: The Fellow will engage in intensive organizing campaigns designed to fast track their functional understanding of community organizing, leadership development, turnout, 1-to-1 relational meetings, management, communications, policy and advocacy. It will also provide the opportunity to research, evaluate and recommend best practices to improve IMAN’s organizing work.
Working closely with the Youth & Organizing Director and other IMAN staff, the Organizing Fellow will gain hands-on experience and provide support for the following activities:
IMAN’s Organizing: The Organizing Fellow will coordinate and provide logistical support for IMAN’s flagship campaign “Muslim Run: A campaign for Health, Wellness and Healing.” The Fellow will play an active role with facilitating weekly organizing meetings and managing the database of campaign leaders. S/he will gain a deep understanding of the art and science of community organizing by engaging with IMAN’s diverse network of alliances and partner organizations. The Fellow with support the Organizing Director with coordination of community forums, workshops and campaign steering committee meetings. S/he will also play an instrumental role with mobilizing and turning out leaders for important campaign related events.
Meeting Facilitation: The Fellow will help to facilitate weekly organizing meetings by working with the Organizing Director and key stakeholders to construct agendas. S/he will also be responsible for disseminating notes and action items after each meeting.
Turnout Strategy Development & Reporting: The Fellow will work with Organizing Director to formulate turnout strategies for major organizing events as well as other IMAN events. S/he will also maintain responsibility for managing the database of leaders for all related events and disseminating the turnout results to organizing staff. The Fellow will also ensure that sign in sheets are in place at all related organizing events.
IMAN’s Organizing Training: Alongside the organizing team, the Fellow will help to construct the agenda for the training, assist with curriculum development and facilitation, and provide outreach and marketing support to positively impact leadership turnout.
Relational Meetings: At the conclusion of the Fellowship, the Fellow must have completed at least 25 1-to-1 relational meetings. The Fellow will be allowed space and time outside the office to conduct important relational meetings.
