Ramadan Refresh the ‘Hood Challenge 2012: IMAN & the Lupe Fiasco Foundation
IMAN is partnering with the Lupe Fiasco Foundation on the Ramadan Refresh the ‘Hood Challenge, a month-long effort to engage with community residents and to transform local corner stores into sites for education around health and wellness. This effort will bring subsidized fresh produce to two out of the 15 local corner stores that have signed on to IMAN’s Muslim Run Statement of Intent transformation document. Our two partner stores, will open their doors, every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, to this challenge to use the sacred goodness of this month to step up their commitment to a larger campaign dealing with race relations and access to fresh and wholesome food in the inner city.
The Ramadan Refresh the Hood Challenge emerges from IMAN’s Muslim Run: A Campaign for Health, Wellness, and Healing that confronts the intersections between community health and local corner stores and calls on corner store owners to be accountable to the communities they serve. Ramadan is the ideal month for the Muslim community to challenge themselves and one another to be more accountable for spiritual imperatives to act in accordance with the highest ideals of justice, compassion and mercy in the world.
